Utilities

This division handles various aspects of the potable water supplied to the Village. Their responsibilities include the maintenance of over 1,400 fire hydrants, nearly 5,000 meters, over 4,000 valves, and 80+ miles of water main. Bensenville is actively working towards achieving Gold Level status through the American Water Works Association’s Water Ambassador Program.

The Utility Division conducts regular programs to ensure the health of the Village’s water distribution system and our residents.

  • Staff exercised every valve connected to the system once a year, ensuring easy operation should an emergency require the valve be used.
  • Fire Hydrant Flushing is completed twice annually to clear the system of debris and ensure proper operation of all fire hydrants.
  • Monthly water sampling is in accordance with state and federal regulations.

The Village receives Lake Michigan source water, which is treated by the City of Chicago and transmitted from Chicago to the DuPage Water Commission (DWC).  DWC does not conduct any water treatment but conveys the treated water from Chicago to the Village, which the Village then distributes to its customers.  Over the next few months, the City of Chicago will be changing its water treatment methods.

For more information on the quality of the Village’s drinking water, the Village provides its annual water quality report. This water quality report is prepared to inform you, the consumer about the quality of the water and the services that the Bensenville Department of Public Works – Utilities Division provides to you daily. No action is required, as this report if informational.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that this report is completed and accessible to residents. It is in accordance with the 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act. This report will summarize the quality of the water we provided. It included information where your water comes from, what it contains and how it compares to the United States Environment Protection Agency (USEPA) and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) standards.
